New Year's Resolutions
It’s getting close to that time of year where we make a personal report card about ourselves. We take inventory of things we want to improve, do, or not do.
The dawn of a new decade almost implies even more pressure to pick one’s resolutions well. The idea of wanting to change things with a fresh start to a record of time stems from ancient history. Babylonians did this every March, some 4000 years ago. When new crops were planted, a new King was crowned and everyone reaffirmed their loyalty to him. Promises were made to the gods and these were seen as resolutions.
The Romans had a similar idea when they moved the new year from March to January to highlight the significance of Janus, the two-faced god whose spirit inhabited doorways. It was within Janus that one could look backwards on the previous year and ahead to the new year and so Romans made sacrifices to this god and hence, these were their promises they would keep for the new year.
When you think about it, a resolution is simply just that: a promise. As we reflect on our past year, we have had such a fun time making new products, interacting with clients at markets and getting our brand out to different stores. We’ve learned, we’ve made mistakes and so we’ve learned some more. In 2020, we have new and exciting products coming out, as well as we will be hitting up more markets and shops. We aspire to be even more friendly to the environment with our line of products and lean on local suppliers and producers even more-in a way, our promise is to lessen our foot print as we try to grow our business past the goals we reached in 2019.
We would be truly nothing without customers and we can’t thank you enough for supporting our local business, sharing your reviews and just simply saying hello at markets.
To 2020!
Yours in Passion, Vision, and Creation,
Isabelle
