Natural Exfoliants

We can’t be blamed for wanting to take good care of our skin. There are such a huge range of products out there that promise to do so much good for your skin, but upon further inspection, they do damage to the environment.

Exfoliating your skin is an important part of one’s beauty routine because it sloughs off old dead skin, revealing new cells underneath. This allows for moisturizing products to reach your skin more directly, leaving you looking fresh and rejuvenated.

Down the drain your exfoliation beads begin to travel and here is where the good they cause for your face begin to cause damage to the environment. Made from polyethylene plastic, this is the same plastic that is used to make plastic bags which means, they’re not biodegradable. They end up in our waterways, polluting rivers, oceans, they get consumed by fish and end up in the food chain that we consume.

Here at Washboard we try to minimize our environmental footprint so we are proud that every single exfoliating product we make contains natural exfoliants. In our products we use avocado pits, coconut shreds and hemp powder. Our Café au Chocolat soap uses pure espresso coffee as our exfoliating ingredient. Coffee won’t harm the environment and it is also known to remove dead skin cells for a smoother touch. It takes a little more research and a little more time and effort, but it is possible to take care of our environment while we take care of ourselves.
